Cream together:
½ cup shortening
1 ½ cup sugar
Then add:
2 well beaten eggs
3 T. cocoa
2 oz. red food coloring
Then add:
2 ¼ c. flour
¾ t. salt
1 c. buttermilk
1 t. vanilla
1 T. vinegar mixed with
1 t. soda
Bake at 375 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes in 3 well greased and floured 8 inch pans.
FROSTING
Cook until thick:
3 T. flour
1 cup milk
Cool cooked mixture
Beat together:
1 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 t. vanilla
Add cooled flour mixture and beat until fluffy.(about 10 minutes) Frost between layers and top of cake.
